The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recognizes a deep massage device called Endermologie as effective for reducing the appearance of cellulite, but the effects are only temporary.
TriActive, a laser device, helps to increase circulation to the cellulite area, which encourages lymph drainage and reduces the appearance of cellulite. Results with TriActive were shown to last at least several months.
An FDA approved device, VelaSmooth, uses radio frequency wavelengths and infrared light, with simultaneous massaging, to reduce cellulite. Results may last six months or more.
Cellulite treatments with these devices require many repeated treatments over weeks or months, and end up costing hundreds to thousands of dollars.
A much less expensive cellulite treatment option is a cellulite cream. There are many such products on the market, but few that actually produce results. Cellulite creams with the ingredient methylxanthine appear to reduce cellulite to some degree by reducing the fluid around the cells and encouraging fat burning just below the surface of the skin, where the cellulite is. These cellulite creams can produce results in about eight weeks.
